Betrayal

Talons slashing
teeth gnashing
harsh words gashing
through the soul
unneeded I am told
unwanted to behold.
It seemed so right
this friendship forged
from two broken souls
searching for
that better place,
but what always comes
came round again
and here I am
wondering why
I ever believed.
Yet here I would stand
though all the invisible powers fight
against me.
And here I would fall
though all my beloved ones
hate me.
"Hopeless," they deride me
Still I stand.
Still I wait.
Still I love.
Though betrayal be all I receive,
I will not fail.
